Hollywood romance is not normally the trope I usually go for, but if you know the author at all, you know that her stories aren’t superficial. Most likely there is a message she wants to get across. Falling Like Stars is no different. I can tell the author laid her heart bare in this book – a heartbreaking event that she went through herself and probably continue to fight through for the rest of her life. Make sure you read the warnings … The MMC is a talented movie star, but this is just merely his job. His journey is not about being famous or the glitz and glams of Hollywood (although a bit of that was fun). MMC was stuck in an abusive relationship that he has a hard time letting go – yes ladies and gents it happens to men too ☹ The FMC lost her childhood friend in a tragic event and she has not been the same since. The survival guilt is real. FMC just floating aimlessly through life – working on a dead-end job, careless with her own life, and punishing herself for just breathing. I like the innocent way they met and became friends. Their relationship development is seamless through mutual respect and understanding. It is refreshing that this is not a cliché female falling to her feet for a Hollywood leading man! They both must work through their own problems and demons before they can have a healthy relationship. I love that they lean on each other as they work on themselves. A few drama with the ex-gf I can do without and I feel the story with FMC and her friend’s mother resolved a little fast. Overall, this was an intense, emotional, beautiful story about love, lost, self-worth, healing and second chance at happiness. I think the message I got is that no matter what happens – don’t give up, try to survive, know your self-worth, be kind to yourselves and others, no shame in seeking help because you are not alone. E.S is definitely back, and she does not disappoint – beautifully written love story. Totally worth the 2 years wait.
