Review: Waiting for Wyatt by SD Hendrickson

Waiting for Wyatt by S D Hendrickson ~ 4.5 STARS!

“The dogs that deserved a chance, the guy who needed a second, and the girl determined to save him.”

My name is Emma Sawyer.

I met Charlie and Wyatt on the same sultry, summer day. It was unexpected, leaving a feeling in the pit of my stomach like the time I drove too fast over Beckett Hill. The moment happened out of nowhere, all fast and quick and a little strange. Or maybe that was just Wyatt’s personality.

It was Charlie that brought us together. Little Charlie with those ridiculous ears. I found the dog, waiting in a pool of his own blood. Waiting for someone. Waiting for me.

Now Wyatt, he wasn’t waiting for anyone. At least that’s what he said, except I saw something different in the broken guy all alone out in the woods. I knew he needed me before he knew it himself.

Wyatt with his hidden dimples. Wyatt with his warnings to stay away. He was a hard lump of coal, ready to burn everything around him. The more he burned, the more it pulled me into the pain I saw etched on his troubled face.

I wanted to help Wyatt. I wanted to save him like he had saved all the Charlies in the world. He told me not to fall for him, but I did anyway. I fell hard and fast and deeply in love with Wyatt Caulfield.

But that was before I knew his secret.

****** Waiting for Wyatt is amazing. After The Mason List, I knew I would love this one too and I was right. S.D Hendrickson is a wonderful writer and she does not disappoint.
This book is a standalone, dual POV, contemporary. Bonus — any dog lovers out there? This one is for you!

Emma is a sweetheart. She would go to great lengths to save animals. The story started out with Emma rescuing a dog from her creepy landlord. Since she could not keep the dog herself she was trying to find a home for him which leads her to Wyatt. Wyatt runs a kennel with rescued dogs. The first meeting did not go very well – he did not welcome new company. Wyatt was quiet, brooding and mysterious. There is something about Wyatt though that draws Emma to him and she is determined to break down his wall.

“Look if you’re gonna keep coming here, I’m just saying this upfront: don’t go home dreaming up any ideas…You’re not here to fix me.”

Wyatt wants his simple life, existing at the kennel with his dogs. At first, not by choice – Wyatt makes a mistake in his youth and he is living with the consequences and the pain that follows. Wyatt just sort of gives up on life. He gave up his family and any hope of having a normal life.
But Emma marched right into his dull life like lightening. She is his miracle even if he doesn’t know it yet. Wyatt was resistant to meet new people and put up his shield but Emma won’t take no for an answer. She has a deep emotional connection with Wyatt that she can’t quite understand. She is determined to stay. It breaks my heart to see Wyatt living his life with so much guilt, inner turmoil and darkness. I like this plot – very unique. It’s a little haunting but so beautiful. My emotions were all over the place with sadness, angst, a little suspense too. In the end my heart smiles with joyful happiness for Wyatt and Emma. Waiting for Wyatt is about redemption, hope, healing and forgiveness. So, will Wyatt finally realize that he deserves a second chance and a future with Emma?

“I was in love with Wyatt Cater, in every way a girl could be in love with someone else: mind, body, heart, and soul.”

I am in love with the author’s writing. It’s beautiful and flawless. I absolutely adore her her beautiful characters. I noticed the stories this author writes are very emotional, thought provoking – it pulls on your heartstrings every time. If you have read The Mason List, you know what I mean. She has a way of captivating your heart and soul so you can’t help but feel invested in the characters. This story is about a chance at life, love and happiness. It will make you laugh, cry, break your heart to pieces and heal it again.

“Sometimes saying goodbye was harder than saying nothing at all”

I highly recommend this book you guys. Don’t miss this!!! Can’t wait for more 🙂 WOOT 🙂
