Mister O by Lauren Blakely

4.5 Stars!

“Somewhere nearby is my best friend, and I don’t care. Because this woman is in my arms. She is all I see, all I hear, all I smell. The need to be closer to her consumes me, blotting out everything else—most of all, the reason to stay away.”

Mister O is a spin-off from Big Rock, following Spencer’s sister, Harper, and his best friend, Nick. It is a nice mix of the forbidden love with your brother’s best friend and your friends-to-lover story.

Nick Hammer and Harper Holiday have known each other for years. Even though Nick is best friends with Spencer, he and Harper have always been friends too. After pulling off a prank where Spencer thinks Harper and Nick are hooking up, Nick can’t stop thinking about her. Harper ends up asking Nick for dating advice. As their temporary learning sessions heat up, neither can deny their chemistry and attraction to one another.

There are so many good things about this book. This was just a sweet and cute ride for me. Nick and Harper are the best type of lead characters because they’re a bit atypical. Harper is a magician and a little bit on the nerdy side; she lacks all type of dating skill. Nick is a hottie, but he was a late bloomer. He was also a bit nerdy in high school and didn’t learn how to please the women until after his show, Mister Orgasm, takes off. I like that they are relatable, down to earth characters, especially Harper. Harper isn’t the typical beauty queen everyone fawns over, but a real girl who is beautiful but shy, cool, and somewhat dorky. I definitely empathize with her. Who hasn’t been tongue tied around a hot guy?

One of my favorite aspects of this book is that it is in Nick’s POV and I love the male POV. He’s great. He is confident, but not overly cocky. He has a sweet and vulnerable side that makes me swoon. I love that he opens up to Harper and puts his heart on the line to be with her. He takes a leap of faith and it pays off. It is fantastic to read.

“My type is you.”

“I, Nick Hammer, self-avowed serial monogamist and Magellan of the female orgasm, have become a love-struck fool.”

Some of the best parts are the texting that Harper and Nick do. Harper feels comfortable communicating with text messages and I can totally relate. I’m the same way =). It was sweet watching their relationship bloom and it is just as Harper describes….”Now I have butterflies…”

This is a great story with a fun love that blooms out of friendship. I just love the theme. I think many will enjoy this book. Happy reading!
