OMG! I can’t even. This book … I need “one in, one out” myself. Aly Martinez has a dark side!!! This book is nothing like what I read from this author in the past – not quite as dark anyways.

Cora and Penn both went through hell. Penn watched his wife die in front his eyes, unable to helped her. He carried that guilt for the past 5 years and continue to struggle with moving on with his life. Cora had similar experience which left her scarred, alone to fence for herself. Cora is a strong heroine – smart, fearless, protective, and a survivor. She would do anything to protect her girls from the dangerous world they are forced to live in. The hero Penn is broken and with a tortured soul. He too is fiercely protective. He is the only one that can see through the strong façade Cora put on. Penn knows it is dangerous to get involve with Cora since she is being controlled by a bunch of thugs. Since Penn’s wife murder, he has not been able to get close to another woman until Cora. Penn is determined to do everything in his power to prevent history from repeating itself.

I love the angst and the incredible chemistry and attraction between Cora and Penn. I enjoyed the intense and twisty plot. I mean Holy Moly guys! I don’t’ even know what the heck I just read. This story is gritty, dark, raw, freaking suspenseful. I am a complete wreck, angry, sad, confused, emotionally drained at the end of the book – it’s a cliffhanger and I am desperate for the second book. I don’t even want to know what kind of sick twists will happen to Cora and her girls. I normally like fluffy love story but this book is purely addictive, intense, keep me on my toes and my palms sweat. Unique and insanely good storyline – Highly recommended!
