Holy crap! I don’t even know what to say…Have you ever finished a book and think to yourself what the heck? Yeah! This is one of those for me.
Victoria is happily blissed when her boyfriend proposes but tragedy immediately follows that forever changes her life. Victoria’s life is turned upside down and she can’t quite get over the tragic event. Then she finds out her fiancé is sleeping with her own sister… Victoria knows she needs to move on. Nine months later, Victoria moves to a small town hoping to escape her haunted past and build a new life. What she does not expect is to meet a handsome, mysterious neighbor Jude and his son Angus. Jude’s life hasn’t been smooth sailing either. His wife up and left town without a trace and his father-in-law, the well-respected town sheriff blamed Jude as the reason she left. Victoria and Jude are instantly drawn to each other, sharing the same heartache. They lean on each other. Jude being Victoria’s supporter, encouraging her to let go of the past and be free. Victoria becomes fast friends with Angus and helps Jude discover secrets. Victoria’s woven herself in too deep and what she finds out about Jude might break her heart. About half way through I realized things are not what they seem at all. Huge plot twist that completely blew me away. I honestly did not see it coming – very clever on the author’s part. I was truly amazed by Monica James – you can always count on a unique and thought-provoking story with all the FEELS.
I am not quite sure how to categorize this book … I think a little bit of everything – second chance, mysterious, angst, suspense, paranormal. The blurb doesn’t give much away but trust me you want to go in blind – it’s worth it to experience the impact that sure knocks you on your butt. The epilogue maybe left a little room for more – don’t get me wrong … loose ends all tied up, the world is just as it should be and all that, but I was hoping for the after-epilogue … Victoria chose a different course of action and this path profoundly impacts her life, Jude’s, as well any may others involved. I can’t help but wonder what is after? This story made me think a little you know about living in the moment, destiny and the afterlife.
Chase the Butterflies is such a phenomenal read! Truly unique and inspirational.
Highly recommended you go in with an open mind.
