A sexy, hilarious, emotional, new romance from New York Times bestselling author Emma Chase.
Connor Daniels never thought he’d be starting over at dating square one. His career as a successful doctor, and his three boys, are everything to him. It’s not exactly a setup conducive to a scorching love life—but he’s giving it a shot.
ER nurse Violet Robinson never intended for Connor to find out she’s had a crush on him forever. It was a dirty little secret only meant for her dirty dreams. Her heart trips every time he’s around—and so do her feet.
When Connor sees Violet coasting across the grocery store parking lot—and she falls on her face—he starts falling for the gorgeous, young nurse right back.
Dating can be tricky. And life can be beautiful and crazy and unpredictable. But when it gets real, you discover what matters most . . . and the one person you want loving you through it all.
This is by far my favorite book of Emma Chase!!! ♥️
I love the older and more mature hero/heroine trope. Connor is a 42 yo divorcee with 3 boys. He is gorgeous, successful emergency room doctor, have nice home and an awesome family. The only piece missing is a woman to share life with …Violet is an ER nurse who secretly has a huge crush on Connor for the longest time. She is beautiful, funny, smart but a total clutch whenever she is in company with Connor. Dating would entail a lot of obstacles. Violet loves her job so she is reluctant to cross the line with the handsome doc at work in case they don’t work out. Connor’s priority is raising his 3 boys to become respectable men. Connor is pretty much a single parent since his ex-wife is busy finding herself. Actually, I am curious about Stacey though – I mean she obvs redeemed herself. I can see how she sort of lost herself. Connor works long hours and she is home raising 3 boys … everything is done and in order when Connor comes home. It can be a lonely (speaking from experience ) I feel bad for her and I do think she maybe misunderstood.
Anyways, back to Connor and Violet. I really appreciate that they started out as cute crushes, friends, dating, and eventually became each other everything. I like that there is not a clear one person pursuing the other, but rather they just naturally falling for each other. I swoon hard for Connor – he is such a good father and obvs hot a.f lover. I adore Violet – she is hilarious and she is so honest about her feelings. There is no game playing in this relationship (the reason I love a bit more mature older characters). Violet is caring and selfless (a nurse’s trade that is for sure ). All the secondary characters are awesome as well – the three boys, Violet friends, and Connor’s family. I like a touch of a drama with Stacey but not too much focus on her. I think it is more of a message for divorce couples out there to take notes how you treat each other can affect your children negatively. There is one part that almost gave me a heart attack – I thought the worst but thanks God for the outcome.
Over all, this story is hilarious – I was laughing so hard at so many things. The story about things suction up where the sun doesn’t shine was just crazy and sadly REAL – I will add chicken bones to that list LOL Connor and Violet romance was innocent enough but d*mn that did not last long before it turned freaking steamy and delicious. It is great that the author includes the boys and show the importance of family.
I think Getting Real is a PERFECT mixture of fun, steamy, emotional friend-to-lover/co-worker romance. It is just a FEEL GOOD story you don’t want to miss. FLAWLESS writing. I REALLY REALLY NEEDED this book to start my year. This is on my re-read pile.
Side note: I have seen some reviews criticizing the accuracy and details of certain medical events. Keep in mind, this is not a medical text book. Also, some female doctor might be offended about male doctor and female nurse – I get it! But again this is a fictional romance.
I read to be entertained – if I want reality I just go to work.
That is just my opinion. Everyone is of course entitled to theirs.
