Kane's Hell
Kane’s Hell by Elizabeth Finn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kane’s Hell by Elizabeth Finn! HANDS DOWN 5 beautiful STARS
*** Contemporary, erotica, friends-to-lovers romance ***
*** WARNING: This book contains darker subject matter and violent content that may be difficult for some readers.

Kane and Helene were the best of friends until a nightmare devastated them… Hopes were destroyed, dreams shattered, a budding teenage love torn to pieces. Eleven years later their lives are nothing like they once were. Time has changed them … and not for the better.

Helene is smart, driven, and accomplished—her education and achievements a smoke screen hiding the frigid and fragile child wounded long ago.

Kane is equally obsessed with his coping mechanisms—fighting … drinking … screwing … compulsively destroying himself one vice at a time.

When their paths collide again, their past becomes an obstacle no coping mechanism in the world can protect them from. But confronting the past so they can heal in the present is no easy task. Can Kane reach Helene and recapture what used to burn so warmly between them, or will his own self destructive demons pull her into his hell?

A woman determined to look forward. A man always looking back. A love desperate to be restored.

My review:

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!
So first let me say that you really need to take the author’s warning above seriously. This book definitely contains dark and violent content but it’s SO GOOD!!!! If you can get through the first couple of chapters, it will be worth it. I read this book in one sitting. I was ignoring everything and anything around me. This story will suck you in and swallow you up. I did however, have to take a few short breathers in between. It was that hard and I guarantee some ugly tears.

“I’m not good at much in this world. But I’m good at loving you.”

The story was told alternating between past and present. It started out with Kane and Helene in high school. They were best friends since childhood. They are protective of each other and care deeply for one another. Kane is always a little bit of a bad boy and Helene is a bookworm. As they grow up friendship turns into an innocent crush. There was lots of innocent flirting but neither one wants to make a move for it to be more. The cute and smartass banters between the two was fun to read.

“You’re the brightest, warmest star in my universe. You’ll never be less than everything to me.”

Then something terrible happened…. Kane left Helene behind and it all went down hill from there!
God, my heart was absolutely broken for both Kane and Helene. The tragedy card that they had to deal with is to heart wrenching for such young innocent souls. Their lives and spirits were destroyed not only at the time of the incident but also in the years that follow.
Fast forward 11 years….
Kane is a tortured hero, a man-whore and he hiding a big secret. He can’t face the past or deal with his pain. So instead he is fighting, drinking, and screwing his way through life. On a lighter note, he is a very sexy carpenter who is very skilled in ALL departments wink, wink, wink if you know what I mean 🙂

“I am always going to love you, Hell. And you will always have a place in my world if you want one. But your disappointment in me hurts.”

Helene is smart, strong, and accomplished. She moved on from the painful childhood and is now a successful young lady about to receive a doctorate degree in philosophy (one little hang up – her final project). Helene thought she was doing so well until an unexpected student appeared in her class. KANE. He is trying desperately to win Helene back. This brought back a lewd of emotions that Helene buried a long time ago. Did Helene really move on or does she want answers? Why did Kane up and leave? Can truth, love and forgiveness prevail? Or will the secret destroy them both forever?

“You’re the brightest, warmest star in my universe. You will never be less than everything to me. You’re my Hell.”
“In summary, you’re an experience of the senses to me. I experience my love for you in something far more profound than a mere thought. It’s in everything I feel, see, hear, taste and smell everyday. That, in a nutshell, is how a posteriori knowledge affects my life.”

This book is just so AMAZING. It is beautifully written and I LOVE the way the author incorporates life philosophy into telling the story. The plot is unique, heart wrenching, emotional, dark, intense. An absolute MUST READ. All the FEELINGS… I was so nervous. My heart was pumping hard the whole time and again I ate up all my nails. I can’t shake that nasty habit when I get nervous ….
You just HAVE TO READ this book and feel for yourself. I LOVE LOVE this book even with all the dark, gritty content. Nothing like I have ever read before!
So, thank you Elizabeth Finn for such a beautiful story. I can not wait to read more of your books in the future.

“We are going to be okay.”
