Review: Can’t Hold Back by Serena Bell

Can't Hold Back
Can’t Hold Back by Serena Bell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Can’t hold back is the first book I read of Serena Bell. I chose this book for two reasons: first I am a big sucker for military romance and second I always on a look out for new authors with new writing styles and new stories. I have to say I am very happy that I chose this book.

Nate was injured in the line of duty leaves him broken, body and soul. Nate finds himself addicted to his pain meds, with no place to call home. Desperate for an escape, Nate reluctantly accepts a friend’s invitation to a new veterans’ retreat. Nate is shocked when the sight of his physical therapist opens up another old wound: heartbreak.
Years ago, Alia fell hard for Nate, but never made her move. Instead, she set up her sister with the sexy, confident military man, a foolish decision that continues to haunt all three of them. Now, with Nate as her patient, will Alia be able to hold back or will she cross boundaries and finally have a second chance at love?

Nate – well who can resist a military man especially the wounded one 🙂 Nate is confident, sexy and strong. He is also loyal to his friend even though it hurts him and Alia in the process. Can he get past the guilt and duties in order to find happiness?
Alia character is sweet, caring, and selfless – she gave up Nate for her sister even though she really likes him. After Nate was deployed she even helped her sister with sending letters and care packages. But then Alia started to send emails and texts to Nate and slowly she started to fall for him. Fast forward, it was faith that she was assigned as Nate therapist after he came home. She helped Nate not only with the physical pain but also the emotional pain and demons that Nate suffered. My only complaint is that I was not sure about the sacrifice Alia made for her sister (giving up Nate) I don’t know if that’s necessary or believable but then again I guess it has to be otherwise it wouldn’t be a second love story 🙂 🙂 I also would like the epilogue to be a little bit longer. This book is about forgiveness, second chance at love, and new beginnings. It is not without emotions, angst, pain, and real life issues though. So if you don’t mind a little feels it’s worth it! This story is really sweet and don’t forget sexy too.
“I want you to love me. Because I love you.”
I would read another book of Serena Bell. I am curious if she will write a story for Alia sister?
Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the ARC of this book.
