“Some people think God puts difficult people in our lives for a reason to make us better people as we sharpen ourselves on the knife of their short-comings.”
Wow! This is the first novel I read of author Ilsa Madden-Mills and I am addicted to her writing already. Dirty English is such a raw and emotional read that it will leave you wanting more. This is a modern romance inspired by Pride and prejudice – college girl meets the sexy classmate/underground fighter.
Elizabeth had it rough! She endured one terrible night after prom that left her damaged beyond repair. She learned the hard way not to trust people because the one you love most always hurts you in the end. Elizabeth is no longer an innocent girl – she is sassy and tough. She built a wall surrounding her heart and is determined never to be fooled or fall for anyone again. That’s until a new neighbor moves in next door. Declan is uber sexy, smart, and alpha – a full package including a hot British accent. Declan also has troubled past relationships that make him wary of trusting women. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Declan ignites and it’s undeniable that they are drawn to each other. There is something irresistible about Elizabeth that Declan wants to get to know and explore, but she is resisting the more… They are both stubborn and fight against the attraction they have for each other. Can they overcome their past demons and help each other heal in order to open their hearts for love again?
“But, maybe it was more. Deeper. I sensed a kindred spirit in her, a loner who ached to find someone to love for real. Like me.”
I really enjoyed this unique story. Dirty English is gritty, angsty, emotional, sexy, and heart-wrenching with a touch of drama and suspense. It’s frustrating at times how they both fight the feelings they have for each other but in the end love wins out. I also really enjoyed the side characters – did I mention Declan is a twin? Dax is sexy, funny and sweet. I am hoping he will get his own story. Overall an awesome read. Beautifully written college student/fighter romance. Highly recommended summer read. New to this author bur definitely not my last book! I am looking forward to more of Ilsa future books.
