“Home is wherever you are.”

Good Lord! This book just blew me away. So, I have not read any books of Anna Brooks before but when I read the blurb I was intrigued. I thought to myself why not? Well, let me tell you, I am so pleased I went with my instincts and gave this book a go. What an incredible second chance love story! Holy Smokes it was so good!

I understand Give Me This is part of a series but this book definitely can be read as a standalone. There were mentions of many secondary characters which I suspect came from other books in the series. I am very curious about these characters as well now, so after I devoured this book in one sitting I am going back for other ones.

Give Me This tells a story of young love Declan and Amie. They first met at the YMCA when Dec and Amie were just a couple of high school kids. In many ways, they were each others firsts on many counts. They were inseparable and have big dreams for the future. But when Declan came home after 8 weeks of boot camp training, Aime seemingly changed overnight – she made a decision which shattered Declan’s heart and broke him.

Fast forward 17 years later Declan was at a crossroads in his life. He decided to move home to be near his family and to raise a daughter where he had many good memories growing up. Aime had moved on with her life as well but not in a good way. She is hell bent on punishing herself because of all the pain, mistakes, and guilt from the past. When Aime and Declan meet again, all the painful past comes to the forefront. Declan still cares about Aime deeply but can he ever forgive her for what she has done. I won’t spoil you on the reason Aimee broke it off with Declan years ago but I can assure you it was done out of love and sacrifice.

God, this story really wrecked me. Some parts were unbearable to read. I feel the pain for both Declan and Aime for all the lost years. I love the hero of this book – he is truly a good guy at heart, caring, and loyal. Despite all the anger he harbors toward Aime, he always has a soft spot in his heart for her. The heroine – you have to read the whole story to truly understand her. She is stubborn but kind and compassionate. She made a rash decision when she was so young and has not been able to forgive herself since then. So, I really feel for her. Declan ad Amie’s relationship is a roller coaster full of ups and downs but I think that’s what makes this story realistic because relationships take work, especially since so much time has passed.

I love the author’s flawless writing. This second chance romance is profoundly heartfelt. Declan and Amie both struggle and have to fight for each other. There are plenty of angst and drama but also silly, happy, beautiful, and heart-warming moments. The characters are flawed, broken but unconditional love and forgiveness heal them at the end. I was emotional throughout the book but I was absolutely bawling my eyes out by the time I finished the epilogue. Anna Brooks delivered such a gorgeous, emotional, unforgettable second chance romance – the true meaning of forgiving, acceptance, understanding and most importantly love conquers all.

“…Seventeen years’ worth of love built up, and I’m gonna use every last second until the day I die making up for what we lost …”

This book is not to be missed!!! I am always looking for new authors and I am so fortunate to find Anna Brooks. Looking forward to more of her stories in the future.
